About ven

The Virginia Environmental Network (VEN) is a dynamic, statewide coalition committed to fostering environmental literacy through strong partnerships, professional growth opportunities, and strategic resource support. Recognizing that environmental literacy is essential for building resilient communities and a sustainable future, VEN works to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to understand, appreciate, and take action for the environment.

At its core, VEN serves as a connector and catalyst, uniting educators, community organizations, businesses, and policymakers to align efforts and amplify impact. By bridging gaps between formal and non-formal education, we strive to make environmental learning accessible to all Virginians; whether through classroom curriculum, outdoor experiences, or community-based initiatives.

By working together, we are laying the foundation for a future where every person in Virginia has the opportunity to engage with and care for the natural world; creating healthier communities, a greener economy, and a stronger, more environmentally conscious generation of leaders.
Our Focus Areas:
Collaboration: We cultivate cross-sector relationships and facilitate regional and statewide coordination to advance environmental literacy initiatives in meaningful, community-driven ways.
Capacity Building: Through training, mentorship, and networking, we empower educators and organizations with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to expand their environmental education efforts.
Resource Support: VEN helps identify funding opportunities, share best practices, and provide access to high-quality materials that strengthen environmental learning across the state.
